Mercury Retrograde/Full Moon in TAURUS/SCORPIO

Today, 12/02, at approximately 4 P.M. Eastern Time Mercury will go into retrograde motion until 12/23.  This will happen in the sign of Sagittarius and keep Mercury conjunct with Saturn until 12/11 when Mercury will slip back into the sign of Scorpio.

Tomorrow, 12/03 at approximately 10:30 A.M., Eastern Time will be the Full Moon.  This Full Moon will take place with the Sun in SCORPIO and the Moon in TAURUS.  No, it will not be a cheerful Full Moon in Sagittarius.  The energy of the Mercury retrograde along with the Scorpio/ Taurus energy of the Full Moon can make this Full Moon feel much quieter than the usual Full Moon energy.  It is best to flow with the energy and focus attention on quiet activities and healthy activities.

Jyotish speaks of a yoga (configuration) known as “Kala Sarpa” which means that all of the 7 visible planets are placed between the nodal points known as Rahu and Ketu.   When a natal chart contains a Kala Sarpa yoga it can indicate that the person who has the chart can have karmas which will have to be dealt with in the lifetime and/or a destiny that must be fulfilled.  There can be wonderful qualities contained within the Kala Sarpa as well as problems which the individual will need great help in solving.  It is not unusual for people with this particular configuration to confound and frustrate others in their lives because everyone can see the challenge that needs to be met and the solutions which will help but the actual person.  Once the person matures the natural abilities and positive qualities of the kala sarpa can manifest.

The world moved into a Kala Sarpa configuration on 9/15/16 and will be experiencing this until 2/6/18 when Venus breaks the pattern by moving into Aquarius.  (Interestingly, the election of 2016 was under a Kala Sarpa and elected a person who was born under an eclipse.) There will be an eclipse on 1/31/18 and another on 2/15/18.

If you feel as if at the present moment your life is stuck in a  repetitive pattern which plays out the same awful reel day after day after day you can look to the Kala Sarpa as one of the reasons why we are stuck in such an awful groove.  The pattern can shift after the mid-February.  We can begin to see some solutions, change and light at the end of the tunnel at that point.

Until then the journey must continue to be an inward one.  It is a good time to take care of health matters, important relationships and our own mental/emotional states of being.  We are endowed with the perfection of self. We can draw on the power of the truth of self to allow us to move through this time period in peace and harmony. There is a freedom in knowing that this is a moment when we take care of what we can and we can do so without the burden of anxiety if we just take care of ourselves and let the world spin in the orbit of the Kala Sarpa.

NOTICE

I often like to post quick updates on the ever-shifting planetary positions more frequently than I post on the blog.  It can be cumbersome and time-consuming to notify everyone about a new blog posting.  Please be aware that I post on twitter @LindaAstroYoga and have put up a new Facebook page which deals primarily with astrology, yoga, etc. Please feel free to join us at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1899766813571335/

Saturn Has Finally Entered Sagittarius.

Today, October 26th, Saturn finally left Scorpio and moved into the sign of Sagittarius.  He will occupy this sign for approximately two and a half years.

Saturn, along with the Nodal points, are the transits which determine the lessons, challenges and rewards of specific time cycles.  It is an improvement for Saturn to finally leave the sign of Scorpio but it does feel as if he is leaving behind quite a mess in his wake.

These are historical times and the challenges of these times make it almost impossible to predict with accuracy what is happening on the world stage.  I do believe that we all have the right and ability to find peace within the chaos. We always have the choice to focus within ourselves and leave behind the belief that our external circumstances must be what we want them to be in order for us to happy.

There are tools which can help us with the journey towards inner harmony and this particular time in history does offer us the opportunity to know the freedom of consciousness.  One of those tools is to understand where Saturn and the Nodal points have settled into our charts so that we are consciously working on developing our true selves and facing the world with the calmness of our higher being.

I am offering a report that is focused on where in your chart Saturn and Nodes are  located so that you can benefit from these long term transits. Please email me: annaicenter@verizon.net  for more information.

GANDANTA

“Gandanta” is a Sanskrit word that translates as “junction.” In Vedic astrology it is a term used for a planet traveling through the final degrees of a water sign.

The final degrees of a planet’s stay in the water signs of Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces are considered to be degrees of malefic energies and sometimes can pose physical danger.  As discussed last week Saturn is finishing up his very long and difficult transit of Scorpio and is currently at the 29th degree. Saturn is therefore in gandanta and one only has to look at the world to know that these are both trying and dangerous times.

Saturn moves into Sagittarius on October 26th   and will begin the journey towards a more positive and stable placement.  October 24th and 25th  will see the Moon debilitated in Scorpio and he will be with Saturn.  The days of the Moon being in Scorpio can feel emotionally dark.

It is best during the rest of the month of October for everyone to find some type of self-care.  Take time for meditation, breath, exercise, movies and/or good food whatever makes you feel positive.  Practice emotional restraint and know that none of us can control the events around us but we can always choose to pull back and not add fuel to the fire.

Behind A Tractor

As I write this, we are experiencing a Sun/Mercury conjunction in the picky, nervous, and detail- oriented side of Virgo. A Mars/Venus conjunction is in the fiery and egocentric sign of Leo.  These energies are personal and can definitely add to anxiety levels as well as tension within personal relationships. Given the powerful eclipse patterns along with the nasty summer we’ve experienced, it does feel as if salt is being applied to wounds.  By October 10th these conjunctions will be subsiding. Until then, it is important to take supplements, eat well, and use emotional restraint.

The eclipse signs have changed from Leo/Aquarius to Cancer/Capricorn.  The new sign placement should alleviate the determined, egotistic desires of the Leo energy and, at the least, will be a quieter energy.  The focus will be on family matters and finances.  The Moon, ruler of the mind, also rules Cancer.  Since Rahu is currently in Cancer, many of us will find new ways of looking at life under his influence.

For those with strong planets in the signs of Cancer and Capricorn, the next eighteen months can see dramatic changes in their daily lives; the parts of life affected will be determined by the houses which have Cancer/Capricorn as rulers.

An interesting historical side-note is the fact that the last time the nodal points were in Cancer/Capricorn, President Clinton was impeached by the House of Representatives and Newt Gingrich, as Speaker, managed to break the Congress and put us firmly on the path to the non-functional Congress we are witnessing today.

Since my last blog, Jupiter has moved into the sign of Libra which he will occupy for the next twelve months.  Those who have strong planets in Libra, Aquarius, Aries and Gemini should find that certain areas of their lives will become more fortunate for the next year.  Jupiter being in a sign of Venus can affect relationships in a positive manner and will give a boost to creative projects.

We should have begun to see a better flow of energy once Jupiter moved, but due to the position of Saturn, it seems that Jupiter has not been able to shine very much. In Vedic astrology there is a feature known as “bhava to bhava” which translates as “house to house.” It is a technique whereby planets are assessed by their house positions to one another.  Saturn is currently still in the sign of Scorpio which is second to Libra, and the result is that Saturn is currently blocking the energy of Jupiter.  It’s as if one is driving a really nice car on a one-lane rural road and, right in front of the car, is a tractor which is going 20 miles per hour. The position of the tractor slows down the nice car and, due to the nature of the rural road,  the car cannot pass the tractor which leaves the only sane choice to be one of patience until the tractor eventually reaches its turn-off point.  We are all waiting for Saturn to move out of Jupiter’s way.

Saturn will move “finally” into the sign of Sagittarius where he will reside for approximately two and a half years.  In an earlier blog I had written about Saturn moving back into Scorpio and how it would be like a final exam with regard to the long transit of Saturn being in the sign of Scorpio.  It truly has been a tough test.

Scorpio can be considered the heaviest sign of the zodiac, and Saturn is the heaviest planet; these two combined energies have resulted in a burdening of all human beings.  Scorpio is the sign of the subconscious and many people are operating from the impulses and stored emotions of the subconscious. Scorpio is a water sign but, being ruled by Mars, the emotions can be fiery.  Both Saturn and Scorpio are stubborn by nature, so it has not been easy to find light in the darkness.  It will be a relief for Saturn to take up residence in the positive sign of Sagittarius.  I’m not promising a rose garden but, with a little bit of effort, we will be able to see the sunlight breaking through the clouds.

An interesting historical side-note is that the last time Saturn was in Scorpio, America elected our first television personality as president when Ronald Reagan won the election.  Reagan was the man who encouraged people to blame everything on the government.  Donald Trump, another television personality, won with Saturn in Scorpio and, in addition, Trump is an eclipse birth with the eclipse taking place in Scorpio.  The question is, “Will we correct course or not?”

In summary, the energy will be improving, and we should begin to feel some of the improvement after October 10th.  It’s important to keep in mind that we continue to live in transitional times, and the only thing we can be sure of is that we do have the ability to choose our thoughts and to take care of ourselves both mentally and physically.  We can’t feel the improved energy if we choose to hang on to the fears and/or the past.

The Summer of Discontent

Greetings and welcome to my first posting since I’ve come back to the US.  I’ve been busy settling into a new home and am beginning to get back into a routine.

This is going to be a stressful summer in a year that is already proving to be filled with stress.  During the summer we are going to experience our old friends Mars, Saturn, and the Nodal points taking center stage.  We can expect surprises, anger, and frustration which will reach a peak during August and by October the planets themselves will calm down and present us with better planetary weather.  In the meantime, it is best to not try and force change because change will be in the domain of the planets, and any impulsive changes on our part will likely not provide the desired results.  This is a time period to keep supportive loved ones close and to put our trust in our own spiritual center.

There are many systems of astrology and, within my preferred system of Vedic Astrology, there are a variety of ways in which to approach a chart.  For instance, there is in the Vedic system  the “VimshottariDasha” which is somewhat like the progressions of the western system in that it can tell us which planet(s) will be strong in present time. Each planet gets its opportunity to influence a chart in its own time. The dasha will work with the attributes of the natal chart along with the ongoing transits. I view the dasha rulers as if one has moved into the “town” of the planet. A feature of this system is that we are all born with a planet that is particularly active at the time of our birth – this planet is known as the “dasha ruler.” As time passes,  different planets get their opportunity to bring the qualities and karmas they rule into an active principle of our lives.  The first dasha ruler will often be imprinted upon  one’s personality and life just as one’s original hometown often will —  through accents, choices of food, etc. — stay with a person throughout his life.

This same principle will hold true for a country’s chart with the difference being that, because countries last longer than an individual life, the dasha sequence plays out more than once.  The influence of the first dasha will be a part of a country’s profile and will become important when the sequence brings that particular energy back into the forefront.

For the United States of America the first planetary influence was Rahu.  Rahu is not a planet – it is the North Node of the Moon which is the point on the ecliptic path which causes eclipses.  America’s first Rahu journey took place from 1776 until 1794. The second journey took place from 1896 until 1914 and this third cycle takes place from 2016 until 2034. (Rahu’s time span is eighteen years.) Of course, the Rahu dasha is not the only influence in the natal chart or the only influence in present time.  The challenge is that, with the current transits, we are feeling the Rahu energy strongly at this time.

There are many images in the ancient texts which describe Rahu; one of the best known is the image of a man’s head connected to a serpent body.  The image is meant to convey the extreme duality of Rahu’s energy.  Rahu can be seen as the proverbial “two-sided” coin, and the energy of this nodal point can operate at the highest levels of perception or the lowest level of perception which keeps one trapped in the illusion of “maya” and greed for material objects.

Rahu is known for being rebellious and, as an enemy of the Sun, despises authority.  America, of course, founded itself by waging a fierce battle for independence from England.  Rahu, by being the dasha ruler, imprinted itself upon the basic nature of America and, as all of know, we seem to be a nation constantly engulfed in waging battles. In the US chart Rahu is in the sign of Cancer and shares that space with Mercury.  The sign of Cancer is ruled by the Moon, a planet which is one of the indicators of the people; he is in an asterism which is ruled by Saturn, another indicator of the people. He is with the planet Mercury which is one of the planets that can handle Rahu’s energy through higher and more objective intelligence.  This particular placement led to the “people” demanding freedom from England along with a constant fight to keep the oligarchs from acting like ruling royalty themselves.  This battle between the people and the wanna-be aristocrats has been with America from the beginning.

Rahu is often pictured as engulfed in smoke which indicates Rahu’s preference to hide his intentions while he plays with the forces of maya for his own advantage.  Rahu rules, among other things, oil, mining, pharmaceuticals, gambling, intoxication and the world of modern entertainment.  He is also innovative, scientific, forward-looking, creative, and a seeker of immortality.  Throughout our history Rahu has presented as the proverbial double-edged sword.  This past election proved to be a Rahu scenario as smoke and mirrors hid the truth, and people voted for an illusion.

Like it or not, America is a country that had slavery as one of its monetary foundations and in true Rahu fashion (Rahu is in America’s house of money), our first Wall Street (gambling) stock was the slave trade.  There was always a strong contingent of aristocrats who saw the new world as a fiefdom which they would rule forever. Unfortunately, for them there were some very lofty ideals written into founding documents of this country, and the average person has never stopped fighting for the rights promised by our founding fathers.

Rahu, having an influence on technology, seems to have given the best hand in America’s latest go-around with Rahu to the oligarchy.  It has become apparent that technology, combined with the media, pulled off one of the greatest con jobs in political history.  However, no one can count on any end-games when Rahu is involved.  Rahu delights in chaos, upsets, and surprises, and we are finding that technology is providing people with powerful tools to fight back.  It may not be pleasant, and it is sometimes a challenge to hold onto hope, but there is nothing to lose by choosing hope over despair and not losing sight of the fact that America won its independence in its first Rahu dasha.  The second dasha was a time filled with workers fighting against the brutality of the industrial revolution’s oligarchs and the people/workers  won many of those battles.  Round three has only just started.

The most famous mythological teaching about Rahu comes from a story in which Rahu stole the “nectar of immortality” from the gods.  This action is attributed to Rahu’s inclination towards intoxication, material gains, and belief in entitlement.  For us mere mortals, it can be helpful to remember that we don’t have to look for immortality through the illusions of life on earth.  Immorality is available to each of us by focusing on the truth of self.  We can stand strong in our ideals, but still maintain our equanimity and ability to be at peace no matter what turmoil may surround us by giving some attention to love and spirituality.  “Rahu causes most trouble to those individuals who like holding onto the past and are opposed to any sort of change.” (The Key of Life.Prash Trivedi).  Rahu pushes all of us to be creative, independent and innovative.  It’s time to keep our vision on the positive and to keep our hearts wide open.

This summer is a time to put in effort on our nervous systems and state of mind.  Meditation, yoga, herbs, exercise, rest and finding time to laugh with loved ones is going to be very important at this time. Mars is not going to be happy this summer, and this will lead to temper flares, inflammation, and impatience.  It’s important to pay attention to our physical levels of inflammation along with the third chakra/digestive system.  We will all experience moments of true frustration with others and, at those times, perhaps simply using restraint and vowing to do our best to not use hurtful words will allow us all to move into a more permanent awareness of the power of the positive mind, laughter, and love.

7/11Mars moves into Cancer his sign of debilitation.  Physical energy can be erratic and some may experience digestive problems. Cancer is an indication of family, and effort might be required to not fan the flames of aggravation. Mars moves into Leo on 8/26.

8/7 – Lunar eclipse with the Sun conjunct Mars.  Emotions and tension will be running high.

8/13-9/4 – Mercury goes retrograde in Leo and will be involved in the eclipse energy. It is best to avoid snap decisions and since Mercury is often involved in weather to not ignore weather warnings.

8/21 – Solar eclipse.  We will hear about this one since it is the first eclipse in ninety-nine years which will be visible across the “entire” United States. This eclipse will take place in the sign of Leo and will have Mercury retrograde involved.  Expect emotions to run high, and egos to be out of control; the need to be conscious will be strong.

8/27 until 9/9 – Mars will be conjunct Rahu in Leo.

9/9 – The nodal points move to Cancer/Capricorn.  More on that in a future blog.

Finally Rahu is an indicator of new karma, and throughout this summer of our discontent, it will be helpful to use Rahu’s energy to move us all into a higher state of being.  It is not time to be afraid of change. A better option is to change what needs to be changed within ourselves and to take advantage of the Rahu energy which always supports internal growth, creativity and innovation.

Mercury, Venus and Jupiter

Mercury is now in his sign of debilitation (Pisces), and he will stay in Pisces until March 27th.  Pisces is an idealistic sign which favors creativity (especially music), spirituality, and compassion.  Because of the emotional nature of this influence, Mercury – a planet of intellect and neutrality – can become a bit overwhelmed in this idealistic sign.  In this cycle, Mercury will be conjunct his good friend Venus who is exalted in Pisces and is retrograde.  Jupiter aspects this conjunction from the sign of Virgo and forms a positive combination of three benefic planets.

Because Venus and Jupiter are retrograde and Mercury is debilitated, there are imperfections to this combination of planets.  Dreams and goals can be delayed, misinformation can be even more prolific and, due to the idealistic nature of Pisces, we can feel as if the negative forces hold all of the power in the world.  It can be helpful to remember that what goes on in the outer world is not the totality of our existence.

This can be a tiring time for those who spend the majority of their time taking care of their physical lives while ignoring their inner lives.  During this time period meditation, music, and higher knowledge are activities which are favored.  These activities can go a long way toward calming and harmonizing our minds.

It is apparent that we are living through a time period that marks a time of world-wide change.  Perhaps history will compare this shift to the movement from hunter/gatherer to farming or from agriculture to industry – movements which strongly affected all of humanity. Our current epoch appears to be on steroids , and the outrageous chaos is extreme.  We must participate according to our daily role, but we do have a choice as to the state of our minds during these challenges.  It is always our choice to choose happiness over unhappiness, harmony over disharmony, and love over hatred.

If we choose to be conscious and peaceful, there are tools available.  One of the best tools that I’ve used throughout my own life has been to work with the rhythm of the planets.  This approach did not put a million dollars into my bank account, nor did it remove my daily challenges.  It did, however, give me multiple opportunities to not worsen my challenges through my reactions to events or other people.  By working with the rhythms and cycles, I discovered greater harmony in my life and greatly decreased my stress levels.

I have decided to offer a program which will, based on each lunar month, present information which can assist us in flowing with the cycles of the universe.  The program initially will last for six months and will start with the New Moon of March, 2017.  In addition to the monthly report, I’ve included a basic information packet to help you work, organize, and understand the transits better.  If you are already a client, I will email you a basic copy of your own chart so that you can work with the changing planetary patterns along with your own basic information. A six month commitment will be necessary. Additionally, a closed Facebook group is going to be opened so that further discussion can take place.  I will check in on it and answer basic questions; however, I will not be analyzing individual charts.

If you have additional questions, please email me.  I am going to be heading back to the states soon, so if you would like to participate in this program, please let me know as soon as possible since, once I leave Quebec, I may not be readily available for a week or so.

February New Moon

During the late 1980s I began to hear people speak about the energy changes and chaos that were coming our way.  While there were a variety of opinions about the nature of these changes ranging from the end times to space ships descending, there was a fairly constant opinion that the changes would last until around 2020.  It is impossible for anyone to pinpoint an exact date but, in the sidereal system of calculation, Saturn will enter Capricorn around 2020 and begin a seven and half year cycle of Saturn being in signs of strength.  This leads me to believe that we will see some stabilization during the time span beginning in 2020.  I do not believe in the end times, but I do think that we are at a peak time of these changes and that more time is behind us than in front of us.

As we witness the chaos and world-wide suffering, we can also see the consciousness and awareness of people around the globe rising to new and higher levels of understanding human nature and the world we occupy.  Hidden underneath all the noise and fear is a change to the energy and the consciousness of millions of people for whom it is no longer appropriate to accept old truths and old ways of power.

One way that we can see this shift in energy is by simply observing the “resistance” to this new administration’s heartless and crazed policies.  The push-back is different from the days when we protested Civil Rights and the Vietnam War.  Those days of protests were angry and often filled with violence.  Today’s protests are more organized, focused, and determined along with participation of diversified groups ready to stand together with the patience and fortitude required.  This shows a maturity in approach.  There is also a trend toward the tactical use of humor, acknowledging that laughter has long been known to be a function of wisdom.  It’s chaotic and frightening out there but, as has been predicted for years in the circle of mystics, these times are those of awakening.  Just as we often do not like the alarm clock going off in the morning, once we are awake we don’t find it to be horrible.  With the increase in understanding, many more people now realize that no matter what is going on in our lives, we have the tools and the ability to be at peace within ourselves. It is for this purpose that I like to use the energy of each New Moon to help us stay in harmony with the universal order.

Last month’s New Moon was significant because it accompanied two major planetary shifts along with the beginning of the Chinese Lunar New Year.  This month’s New Moon is equally significant because it is accompanied by a partial solar eclipse.  The energy of this eclipse can be very intense and, due to the nature of solar eclipses, one can experience darker emotions experienced along with imaginative thoughts.

The New Moon — as well as the eclipse — will be taking place in the early morning (middle of the night) on the 26th of February, but the energy will be strong all day Saturday as well.  It terms of the New Moon presenting the birth day of the next lunar month, this cycle will be emphasizing the signs of Aquarius along with its opposite sign of Leo. (Sidereal timing – this will “not” match what you will read about in magazines and on various websites.)  The energy will be basically one of the forward-looking and universally-minded Aquarius versus the egocentric and fiery energy of Leo.  Human beings are being pushed towards the understanding that while we may have personalities and abilities that make us unique, we are not individually special and entitled to anything because we are special.

Because Venus and Mars are in Pisces and therefore represent the next sign to Aquarius, there is an indication that the energy of the Aquarius impulse will be poured into the nature of Pisces.  Pisces is a water sign filled with creativity, empathy and idealism – the very best of the nature of a human being.  The freedom and awareness of the revolution Aquarius brings can be projected through the creative spirituality of Pisces.  This would be the contemplative goal of this New Moon cycle.

Pisces is also a prayerful energy which brings me to the other important significance of February’s New Moon Cycle.  Every year on the day before the New Moon in February there is an ancient practice of working with the energy of Shiva.  It is called Maha Shivaratri and, across the world,  Hindus will be fasting, doing pujas, and chanting to Shiva with reverence seeking divinity within and asking for divine assistance for the world.

One of the aspects of these changing times is the movement away from religions and into spirituality.  For many this shift has become a time of no belief in a higher force, and for others recognition that no one belief system owns one’s spirituality.  While understanding the difference between religion and spirituality is necessary, it can also add to feelings of hopelessness due to the apparent loss of the personal “super-hero God” along with the exposed corruption of many of the institutions societies rely upon for stability.

Common sense and thoughtful observation lets us know that there is something else in the universe which holds the world in place. Personally, I am content with not being able to intellectually prove divinity but to know that it exists simply because of the human ability to love beyond the demands of our egos along with the ability to find inner peace no matter what is going on in life.  Part of the changes in awareness is the knowledge that we are all connected at our core. This connection means that when human beings come together for a higher purpose or understanding, everyone benefits individually and collectively.  During times like this it is a good idea to participate in collective prayer, meditation or intention.

This New Moon presents us with the opportunity to be a part of something that has been going for centuries via a sacred and ancient Hindu holy day of spiritual practice.  There will be millions of people praying, chanting, and projecting together toward divinity and reinforcing the truthful knowing of our inner hearts and spirits. It is an opportunity to know we can move through life connected in a higher spirit to affect these times which are filled with change, ineptitude, and fear.

I am a Vedic Astrologer and a Yogini, so I will naturally be using the mantra of Shiva during this New Moon (Om Nama Shivaya).  However, no one system owns spiritual truth, and everyone can use the energy of Maha Shivaratri in the way that suits them best.  What is important is that some time is taken out on either the 24th or the 25th to engage in a spiritual expression during this sacred New Moon and to project that toward the world since your efforts will add to the efforts of millions and will benefit the world as well as your own personal life and self.

We can participate in the world, but the happenings in the world can depend on so many other factors; if we wait for the world to change in order to find peace within ourselves, we pass up the opportunity to find that peace which is not actually dependent on any external.  We have all observed people who have lived lives of great suffering to be filled with compassion, humor, and peace just as we’ve observed people who have every material advantage be filled with anger, greed, and a total lack of peace.  It is our inner self which mandates our level of happiness; our connection to that inner self is truly the only control that we have in this life.

Hopefully, we will all find some time to rest during the weekend of the 24th and experience some well-deserved downtime as we move towards the end of winter and the beginning of Spring.  If there is some movie watching on the agenda, there is a wonderful movie called The Hurricane which stars the incomparable Denzel Washington in a biographical role as Rubin Carter, a boxer serving life in prison for a crime he did not commit.  The life of Mr. Carter is a contemporary story of someone who was able to find peace and harmony in the worst of circumstances – it is a perfect story for this New Moon!
